What is Phytomining?

Phytomining is the systematic cultivation of metal-accumulating plants specifically selected for their ability to extract metals from soil and concentrate them in their tissues. These specialized plants, known as hyperaccumulators, possess unique physiological mechanisms that enable them to accumulate nickel at concentrations typically exceeding 1% by dry weight—concentrations that are orders of magnitude higher than what normal plants can tolerate.
